Television Replays

| 27 February, 2011

Watched MOTD last night and I cannot believe how dire some of the referee’s decisions were. Even with the help of their officials the ref’s still seem to get it wrong a lot of the time! With the memory of the recent American Football Super Bowl still fresh in my mind, I cannot understand why the footballing governing bodies don’t incorporate television replay facilities into the game? I mean, the technology is super fast these days and it doesn’t seem to cause a problem for other sports.

Anyway, I’m going to throw caution to wind and invite all of your opinions on this highly topical and controversial talking point.

Musical Mayhem

| 21 February, 2011

Last night I experienced a musical moment of epic proportions thanks to my dad!

Now I appreciate that listening to your dad’s CD collection is not the coolest thing in the world (was really, really bored), but it turns out that my dad has very good music taste and then some! Of course, there is a fair amount of rubbish in his collection (there really is no excuse for Bryan Adams and Spandau Ballet), but I unearthed some real gems. From Nirvana and the Slick Rick to Underworld and the Prodigy my old man obviously used to like banging tunes!

I’ve loaded a lot of the tracks onto my MP3 player and plan to quiz pops about his youth. Perhaps he wasn’t as boring as I’d imagined!

Back of the NET!

| 13 February, 2011

I had a fantastic football training session with the academy today! We spent about an hour doing fitness drills and working on set pieces before being given the opportunity to take shots at the club’s first team goalkeeper. We all had five shots and yours truly blasted every single one into the back of the net! The goalkeeper wasn’t going easy on us either. Some of the other lads failed to get a single shot past him.

After the training session the coach spent a lot of time talking about the dedication that is required to make it as a professional footballer. I may be paranoid, but I am sure that a lot of the conversation was being directed at me due to my love of the fight game. It will be a hard decision to make if I am forced to choose between boxing and football – especially with the Olympics on the horizon.

Anyway, can’t blog all day, people to see, places to go and all that.

By the way, Mitzi loved her Valentine’s presents! Went for a CD and sold a couple of my old X-Box games so that I could stump up the cash for some perfume. I am officially flavour of the month (makes a change)!

Valentine’s Day

| 11 February, 2011

Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, mother’s day, father’s day and now the dreaded Valentine’s Day. I am sure that there is a conspiracy to prevent me from ever managing to save any of my paper round money (or to get together enough cash for a new XBox game!).

The question is, what should I get for Mitzi this year? By a process of elimination (and ear bending) I have come to realise that garage flowers and chocs are not acceptable as a gift and so I am left with no option other than to go into town. The problem is that on my budget everything is a bit of a cheese fest. I mean, do people really buy teddy bears with big hearts on them? And if they do, are the people that receive these tacky gifts really pleased? I’m veering towards buying a CD for Mitzi and wrapping it in some fancy pants wrapping paper (should show thought and willing). I figure that with a good card (not humorous – that didn’t go down too well last year!) this could be a good bet.

Anyway, I hope that you all receive cards/gifts from everyone that you hope to and I’ll post more updates on the life and times of Charlie Oakley later.

Classic!!!!

| 7 February, 2011

Had to write an entry today to let you all know about an absolute classic prank that was peformed by BHFC’s resident jokester Dermott. Just before Design and Technology, Dermott borrowed one of the department’s camcorders and snuck into the girls toilets. He then filmed about three minutes of footage of one of the cubicles (Albinus kept watch to make sure that he wasn’t rumbled). Dermott then set up the footage on one of the class monitors and got Albinus to loiter around the toilets until an unsuspecting girl went to the use the facilities – as luck would have it, the hapless victim was Lauren Gooch, who was also bound for the D&T class.

When Lauren entered the class, Dermott organised for Albinus, Salam and myself to stand around the monitor and laugh. The obvious commotion caused other classmates to gather round the screen of the toilet cubicle footage from the girls loos. When Lauren came over to investigate, the attention of the boys switched to her and fits of laughter followed. Needless to say that when Lauren clocked the video on the screen she thought that she’d been secretly filmed in the toilet! You should have seen the look on her face! Beetroot does not accurately describe the redness of her face!!!!

Dermott put Lauren out of her misery pretty quickly for fear of getting in trouble, and thankfully she saw the funny side of it and was soon laughing along with the rest of us!

Absolute classic!!!!

Boxing Championships

| 2 February, 2011

My boxing training is going into hyperdrive as of now!!! The next stage of qualifying for the national boxing championships is looming on the horizon and I’m determined to make the final. My best mate, Johnny, will also be fighting in the semi-finals which is worrying the hell out of Mitzi. She’s convinced that we’ll both go through and will end up punching each others lights out in the final!

If truth be told, I would be happy if we both go through and not because I want to fight Johnny. If we both reach the final, then we stand a great chance of being considered for entry to the Olympics in 2012!  In the meantime, there’s just the small problem of beating our next opponents. Both mine and Johnny’s opponents have excellent amateur records and have obviously fought well to get to this stage in the comp. So despite Mitzi’s ‘foregone conclusion’ mentality, neither of us are expecting an easy bout.

Anyway, that’s enough for now. Keep checking back on my blog for more footie and boxing updates.
