The Struggle for Success

| 31 August, 2010

I am pleased to announce that a second book charting the exploits of our beloved Bridgewood High FC will be released later this month. The book will be called ‘The Struggle for Success’ and will follow our team as they attempt to make an impact in the London Schools League. I am hoping that the title of the book will not prove to be a bad omen for the team. I am confident that the quality of players that we will field over the course of the next few months will take the London Schools League by storm. ‘The Struggle for Success’ is available from all good bookshops or from our sponsors website www.quest-books.co.uk.

The blues

| 30 August, 2010

I can’t believe that the summer holidays are nearly over. Spent a dire day trudging around town with Mum looking for a new school uniform. Worst of all Mum refused point blank to buy me black trainers for school. Instead I’ve been saddled with some ‘hard-wearing shoes’ that, according to the spotty shop assistant, will support my feet while I’m still growing. Tosh! A few games of football in the playground will test them to the limit!

Thought for the day

| 27 August, 2010

There’s loads going on in the transfer market at the moment and the money that the papers are reporting is ridiculous. Don’t get me wrong, if I make it as a professional footballer or boxer I want to get minted as much as the next man, but it’s a bit out of control. Anyway, the reason for today’s blog. I heard an old fella talking in the newsagents this morning about how much politicians get paid (he was moaning to be more precise), then in a split second he was praising his favourite team’s manager for signing a new player for 5 million. It suddenly struck me as strange that our beloved footballers get paid way more money than the person who runs our country!! Catch you all later …

Shiner

| 26 August, 2010

Mum is making me go to the local surgery to get my black eye checked out (I bet Mike Tyson never had this problem!). My doctor freaks me out (coffee breath and pork chop sideburns is not a good combo) and he hates boxing! Will write more when I’ve escaped the clutches of my over-protective mother and the doc’s lecture on the perils of the fight game … laters.

Champion Charlie

‘I’m gonna knock you out, Mama said knock you out!’ as the song by my favourite rapper LLCoolJ goes. Won by knock-out last night and impressed the hell out of Mitzi – result! The bout only lasted two rounds (they can go to three and a points decision) before I caught my opponent with an uppercut to the chin and landed him on the deck. He tried to get up but the fight was stopped on account of his jelly legs. Sporting a bit of a shiner under my right eye, but at least it’s the school holidays so I don’t have to suffer the Spanish inquisition from the teachers! Thanks to James, Mitzi and her mates for coming to support me!

Boxing Clever

| 23 August, 2010

Feel fully-recovered from the Amsterdam trip today. It’s just as well as I’ve got a tough boxing bout this evening. Mitzi is coming to watch me – hope that I win! My opponent is hard as nails and is a year older than me. At least my mum isn’t coming to watch. I don’t find her ringside commentary very useful: ‘Hit him harder’, ‘Try not to get hurt’ etc etc. Makes me look like a right berk! Will update tomorrow to let you all know how I get on.
