Credit Crunch

| 29 September, 2010

My parents seem really stressed about the whole credit crunch thing. Yesterday they went up the wall when I asked them for some new football boots (especially as my birthday was only last week). After a considerable lecture about bills, banks and ‘the state of the economy’ I made a hasty retreat to my bedroom to get out of their way.

I guess that a lot of Bridgewood fans will be having similar conversations at home? One of the main reasons that I love sport so much is because it gives you an opportunity to forget about all of the negative things that are happening in the world. After a big training session or competitive bout or footie match the endorphins kick-in and blast away your worries.

Leave a comment if you agree that sport is the perfect stress-buster

P.S. Had a great birthday and a sic weekend with my mates. The family do was ok as well – you gotta love them caterpillar cakes!!!!!

Happy Birthday to me!!!!

Happy Birthday to me, happy birthday to me, happy birthday dear Charlie, happy birthday to me!!!

If you hadn’t guessed today is my birthday and I’m sixteen years old (I wonder what Mitzi has got me?). Unfortunately, I’ve got school today, but I’ve got a great weekend planned with my family and more importantly with my mates.

Anyway, can’t stay online chatting all day, people to see, places to go, presents to open and partying to be done!!!

Best

Charlie

Dr Johnson Game – Aaaarrrghhh!

| 23 September, 2010

I can’t believe that we only drew against Dr Johnson’s Academy yesterday, especially as we held the lead for so long. The lads all played really well and Salam bagged a blinding goal. Unfortunately, yours truly stuffed-up the game by letting one of their attackers get in behind – DOH! I haven’t got the enthusiasm to write anymore today (the full blow-by-blow report is on the homepage) – must make up for it in the next game. Hell hath no fury like Charlie Oakley when he’s been made to look like an idiot!

A close match against Dr Johnson’s Academy resulted in a stalemate draw for Bridgewood High.

Dr Johnson Academy 2–2 Bridgewood High

Goalie SaveBridgewood High started the game with fire in their bellies and an obvious determination to move higher up the league. In the opening minutes they dominated the game with good possession and looked likely to score in the opening minutes.

Bridgewood’s first clear opportunity came ten minutes into the game, when Dicky Woodward dribbled past three Dr Johnson players before unleashing a powerful shot that the keeper did well to tip over the bar for a corner.

The resulting corner was testament to Bridgewood’s set-piece training as Christopher Coggins accurately crossed the ball to Johnny Cunningham, who blasted the ball into the back of the net to give Bridgewood the lead. Read more »

2-1, 2-1, 2-1, 2-1!!!!!

| 15 September, 2010

We did it! We beat the Manchester Schools team 2-1. Even the weather was good, which by the sounds of the conditions that Bridgewood played in was a complete blessing. Feel a bit guilty about my school team losing, but the season is only just getting started so there’s plenty of time. Can’t wait to tell the lads about the match. The quality in the London Schools side was inspiring and thankfully I didn’t let myself down. Sam had a great game too and I think that it helped to have a mate in the starting line-up. Anyway, got to dash, my paper round won’t deliver itself!

School is cool – NOT!

| 9 September, 2010

Two days in and school is becoming a real chore! If one more teacher stresses how important this academic year is I’m going to scream!!! We all know what we’ve got to do in order to pass our exams, it’s just a case of knuckling down and getting on with it. The teachers seem more stressed about the whole exam thing than the pupils. On a different note, it was the first football training session today. It was absolutely wicked to play with the lads again. Mr Cauldwell really knows his stuff! Less than a week until the big game against Manchester.
